Adding to a long list of multimedia applications QNAP now includes easy integration with Roon, the music listening software that’s changing the game in the world of audio. If you’re interested in setting up your own audio system with QNAP and Roon, this tutorial will show you how to do it.
Once you have enabled Roon Server via Container Station on your QNAP NAS, you can begin adding music sources. If you have not yet enabled it, please refer to “How do I run Roon Server in Container Station?” for setup instructions.
1. Start adding your music sources by clicking the “Add folder” button to select a source folder.

2.Select the folder on your NAS where your music is stored.

3.Add music services. (Optional)

4.Configure your audio output device.

5.You should now have everything you need. Enjoy your music!

Roon server app seems to be missing. It was there a couple of days ago. Is it being fixed?
Hi! Roon is now back. We previously took it offline temporarily to straighten some wrinkles. Thanks!
It’s Nov 2 and I don’t see Roon. Was it removed again? Is there a specific QNAP Server or OS Level I need to be using?
Gordon
Hi Gordon, I just checked and it’s there. Can you drop us a line so we can help troubleshoot the issue? To open a support ticket, go to https://service.qnap.com/. Thanks!
Hello. I bought the TVS 473 to be my Roon server. I connected the NAS to my DAC via the front USB and my to my TV via the HDMI. The Qnap Roon Overview page shows these as connected audio devices, and even recognizes the brand of my DAC. But these devices do not show up as audio outputs on any of my Roon controllers (PC, iPhone). So I cannot get the NAS to output any audio. Is there anything that can be done?
Hi Abraham, we’re still investigating the issue. Thank you for your patience!
Can the Qnap TVS 473 (or other similar model) be used as digital audio output in Roon, either via USB or HDMI? This is important as it would enable a user to connect the NAS to an external DAC/amp without needing a separate network streamer.
Hi Abraham, we do support a limited number of USB DACs. They are listed on our compatibility list. Please understand we won’t be testing every DAC on the market due to resource prioritizations. Thanks.
The small point that is not mentioned is that it is not free, the application has a monthly or annual cost if desired and during the subscription 14 days
Do you have the list of ports that QNAP QuFirewall need to open for Roon Server to work?
Thanks
